today we will be showing you how to paint a pattern on this coffee table using a stencil. we stained it a dark walnut color to reveal the painted pattern. shabby diy this coffee table has seen better days but it is solid wood. we started by sanding down the entire coffee table. we determined were to place our template and started rolling on the paint. we moved our stencil, an let the paint dry to the touch. then we overlapped our stencil and continued to paint our pattern. next we applied a dark walnut stain using a rag.

after letting the stain rest for 1-2 minutes, we wiped the access with a clean cloth. the top needs to be protected so we applied 3 coats of polyurethane and lightly sanded between coats. next we flipped the table over and painted the bottom. this coffee table came out great! we really like how the pattern contrasted the walnut stain. the pattern provides a unique and stylish highlight to our living room. the solid wood coated in polyurethane is sure to last a very long time.
