hi. hi, i'm james brown, and welcome to patterndesigners. i hope you're having a great day whereveryou are in the world. nyc, sydney, melbourne, geelong, new york, wherever you are, hope you're having a great day. in this video i'm going to walk you througha beginner's guide to how to sell on society6. be sure to stick around until the end to getour free textile design. cheat sheet

your niche on society6. okay, to begin with i think it's best thatyou select a niche, preferably something that you're really good artistically at producing, whether it be photo montages, illustration of pigeons, or cars, or trucks, or dinos, whatever you're the best at, focus on that. as well, what you enjoy illustrating, designing, graphic designing the most, choose that, and your passion will show through your work. for this example i'm going to choose kungfu cats. my niche is kung fu cats. so here we're at society6.com.

what is society6? society6 is an online shop where artists canupload their designs and sell them on multiple products. so here, we start off with wall art. we've got art prints, framed prints, canvasprints. we've got home dã©cor and pillows and bedding. we've got bathroom, shower curtains and mats, tech, like cases for your laptop, iphones. we've got stickers and notebooks and stationery. we've got apparel, t-shirts and differentitems of clothing.

we've got tabletop, like coffee mugs, travelmugs, and we've got bags. so there's a whole range of products thatyour artwork can go on as a designer, and basically they'll sell the product. you upload your artwork, they'll sell theproduct, and you as an artist get a percentage of the sale. sign up and register on society6. we're here on society6. i'm going to go up to the join area and thensign up. you can choose to discover art if you're justgoing to buy art, or upload art.

we're going to upload art, and then we'regoing to choose our username. patterndesigners. and the display name will be the same. hello@pattern.com is going to be the emailaddress. i won't tell you the password. and sign up. so here i'm going to just click on get verified. "in order to sell your artwork as art printsand other society6 products or apply for a collaboration society6 you must be a verifiedmember.

verification is a one time process that mustbe completed through paypal and costs $1.00." so you have to pay $1.00 to be on this website. "this verification process is important becausethis is how you get paid for your sales. verification also helps keep society6 freefrom spammers and fraud. after you are successfully verified memberswill see an id verification icon," little tick there on your profile page. so i want to verify my identity now. and so you have to stick your password into paypal to get verified, so i'll do that. so once you pay your dollar on paypal youget this message here, "congratulations, you

have successfully completed society6 id verification." so you have to pay through paypal and getverified. so next, i'm just going to go up to my profile. okay, so now i've just, it took me a littlewhile to upload, i don't know why. but i've just uploaded this panel here, whichto change you edit the cover image, which is 1000 pixels wide, and i also added an avatar. so here's my url, society6.com/patterndesigners,i've got my page set up and i'm now ready to ... i've already verified with paypal, and now i'm ready to upload my first image. okay, so you're verified and ready to startselling.

i'd recommend you go to your profile pageand go to upload now, and then check out this information on here about your jpeg size thatyou should be uploading. but check out this seller's guide down herewhich is really important. which will give you information about yourrights to your work, and it gives you info on how much you get per item sold, and thenalso the dimensions of each item. uploading artwork to society6. i'm going to get my image ready for society6. i'm going to do a document 6,500 pixels by6,500 pixels, so that's the basis. so i've got my artwork grouped, i'm goingto copy that and i'm going to make a new document.

i'm going to type into these 6,500 by 6,500pixels, and create, and then paste that in. it's quite small, so just make sure that myscale is on ... scale, strokes and effects, transform both. and so there we have kung fu kitty ready. i think what i might do is just double-clickin there, i'm going to get rid of the tie on his ... at the moment i'm just going todo it like that because it fits as a square, it fits better. and then i'm going to save as, let's havea look. desktop, society6, kung fu kitty 65px.

saves illustrator. but then what i'm going to do is export asa jpeg, and just do it rgb 72dpi is good. there we go, one kung fu kitty. it's got a little bit of a dot there, whichi will get rid of before it's uploaded, and there you go. ready. so now i am ready to upload my first bit ofartwork to society6. so what i'm going to do is go to sell, thenit goes to this page where, "ready to share your art with the world?

drop in a png or a jpeg at least 6,500 pixels,72dpi." so here is our artwork, and i own all rights. "this post contains mature content," no. so go to next step, and it's just going togo to the next step. i'm going to title it kung fu kitty, and it'sdigital. kung fu kitty. so i'm just adding text. kung fu cat. cat.

kitty. karate cat. karate kitty. okay, there we go. so, kung fu kitty loves to do kung fu. so that's our description. right, i think we're all set there. so title of artwork, kung fu kitty. category, drawing.

and then we've got our tags down here. we've got "kung fu kitty loves to do kungfu." okay, continue to create product. so one thing with creating products, thisis the bit where you might want to resize your artwork. so it looks good for these three, it looksgood for this one. i'm going to turn that one on. it looks a bit weird on this metal print,so i might want to resize for that, but i'm not going to at the moment.

i'm just going to go through and all the onesthat it looks awesome on, i'm going to okay them. so i'm going to hit publish, and let's goto view profile, see what comes up. at the moment, let's have a look. there's a little bit of a trick, when youfirst upload stuff it doesn't show you what's there, so click on wall art, and then clickback on all, and it should show all the products that you've selected. there we go. yeah.

i'm going to delete that one, i'm going todelete this one, and do pngs and reduce them. get social for society6. so to get started, share on the key players, facebook, instagram and twitter. just get it out there. share it amongst your family and friends, and hopefully it will produce a bit more impact in terms of selling your artwork on society6. next, if you want to up your level in termsof sharing your content, sharing your designs on society6, i would recommend going to google, reddit, blogger, tumblr, pinterest, linkedin, livejournal, stumbleupon and digg, they'rethe key.

rewind this if you didn't get all those, theremight be some pops of logos going on. i don't know what's happening, but they'rethe ones that you want to focus on sharing your content on.
