bathroom design showrooms
(music)- [announcer] today, on designing spaces,we follow one family as they undergo a bathroomremodeling project. experiencing weak wifibecause your router is on the other side of the home,we'll show you how to solve it. plus, impact glass canmake all the difference in the event of extreme weather. all this and moreon designing spaces. - we've lived in thishouse for two years now.
yeah, right before ourthird child was born. - lots of families hereand we got three kids, it's a good fit. so when we firstmoved in to the house, we really needed to clean it up,it definitely needed a facelift, really all the wayaround the house. - [announcer] the duesingsgutted and remodeled the kitchen in their home but theproject took way longer than expected and isn'tquite finished.
- life in general with threechildren is somewhat chaotic. on a good day, i might getan hour to work on something and it might be one day a week, which is kind of why this whole thing is taking so long. how tall is that? - [announcer] oneproject the family placed on the back burner wasremodeling their bathrooms. - the bathrooms are probablypriority number 45, 46 and 47 on my list of to-dos.
- [announcer] andthat's where we come in, calling in mansfield plumbingto help give the duesings some bathroom botox,a fresh new look that won't break the bankand that fixes their number one frustration as parents. (eerie music)- it's a tough time right now for them. they've got oldtoilets that are, some of them are inefficient.
one of them doesn'tflush all the way and they both plug up. either you're cleaningit, you're plunging it or you're cleaning around itand they both share the cleaning dutiesso, they're like hey, we need something that's goingto make this easier for us. - [announcer] enterthe vanquish toilet, a revolutionary new designstarting with side-mounted seat hinges that makeit easy to clean.
- that flat decksurface on the back, when a tinkle doesturn to sprinkle, you can wipe itoff really easily. pure clean glazeso it rinses well and then that real powerfulflush mechanism that we have. i'm really excited that isgoing to be a great solution. i think it's going to solvea lot of their issues. - [announcer] aplumber gets to work removing the old toiletswhile stylist lindsay
lara works with the familyon design ideas for both the kids' bathroom upstairsand the guest bath downstairs. - tell me a little bitwhat you're thinking for the bathrooms? - it seems small but oneof the big things is that our kids are washingtheir hands a lot and the towel rack isright above the toilet so the kids justyank the towel down, it falls in the toiletso that's a big problem.
just having kid-friendly bathbut still having it look nice. - [announcer] with her missionset, lindsay and her team get to work renovatingthe bathrooms. meanwhile, our plumber hasfinished installing the vanquish toilet inthe upstairs bathroom. - looks good. - uh, yeah. number one you'llsee it's a elongated bowl and high height so it's a verycomfortable seat to be in.
we talked about itearly on, it's this no-hinge seat and so we'vetaken the seat hinges off the top of this and we'vemoved them off to the side, which gives youa nice clean deck so that you can wipe that off. - easy clean, that's amazing. i didn't think wheni heard side-hinges, i didn't reallyunderstand until i saw it. how cool it is to just doone wipe and it's clean.
you know, you're usuallywiping all around into the crevicesand it takes forever and you don't really feellike you get it clean. but with this, itreally is really easy. - i want you towatch this flush. so, it's a very simplelever on the side. you get a full flush, it lookslike you get a lot more water going through thanyou really do. so, it's still the 1.6 gallons.
so, all that toilet paperthat you talked about gets pushed through. - [announcer] and witha soft close feature that means no moreslamming the lid. - that toilet is reallysolving like every single one of the problemsthat we have as parents with kids who can'tflush and are messy. - and with that pure cleanglaze, the action of the water takes away all the debris.
so, clean toilets, easy toclean when it does get a little dirty and easy tomaintain going forward. - [announcer] as therenovation continues, the plumber puts in a brandnew mansfield pedestal sink for the downstairs bathroomand finishes up installing the vanquish toilet. - i think the kids are goingto love the new toilets. they don't have totry so hard to flush, they won't get yelled atif they didn't flush
it all the way. - [announcer] and finally,it's time for the big reveal upstairs. - right, are you guysready to see the bathroom? - [all] yes. - yeah, let's check it out. - all right, let's go. - wow. - holy cow.
- oh, it's so pretty. new faucets. how many towel racks. - [lindsay] so, whatdo you guys think? - [stephanie] we love it. - [lindsay] you do? can you see the difference? - [stephanie] yes,it's beautiful. - [lindsay] it'sclean, crisp, bright,
goes with the rest of yourhouse so it'll be easy. - [stephanie] it's gorgeous. - it's great. - i'm so glad. - it looks like awhole new bathroom. - [rick] it's a nicebright space now. and it's nice and fresh. - [stephanie] functional, too. - [announcer] and then theguest bathroom is revealed.
(gasps)- wow. - whoa, look at that. - [stephanie] oh my gosh, look at that mirror. - [rick] oh, perfect. - no more towelsfalling in the toilet. it was surprising howdifferent it looks just by changingout light fixtures. the vanity lookstotally different now with the different knobsand the cute little facuets.
even though it's thesame with the paint and the light fixtures andall of those cool elements combined, it looks likea totally new bathroom even though we didn't gut it. they're so excited. they're going to love itand i'm going to love not having to pick up after them. and they're going to lovenot getting yelled at. - and mansfield, thank you very much
for unclogging our lives. - [announcer] formore information on the vanquish toiletor any other of their bathroom products, visit mansfieldplumbing.com or go todesigningspaces.tv. - (speaks in foreign language)- (speaks in foreign language) - oh, no no no. chris. my internet's out again.
it's not working. - my name's chris. i am insales for a national company so i get to travel quitea bit around the country and when i'm not traveling,i'm working at home. and this is mybeautiful wife, janet. - i'm janet. i alsowork from the house. and i teach online spanish.
we just work fromthe house a lot and we have our kids at home, mostly olivia, our son goes to school during the day. but we just work fromwherever we can get internet and wherever we canuse our computers. - sometimes when we worktowards the back of the house and since it is so far backand it's concrete block and stucco, the signal is a lot weaker there than it is here rightin the living room.
- today i wastutoring a student, and my internet went out, which happens from time to time and it's really a big disruptionto the student and myself, as their teacher. i just can't have thatthroughout the day. and neither can he. - [announcer] fed up,charlene from milo wifi is going to show chris and janethow to get the most out of their internet.
- hi, i'm charlene from milo. i hear you have a wifi problem. with the structureof their home, they're having difficultywith the router or the modem in the living room reallyreaching up to the baby's room or reaching up to the office. so, milo comes in andwhat we do is we provide that reliable coverageat an affordable price. - our router over here.
- okay, that's whereyour router is. - my office is allthe way over there and then i have thebaby's room upstairs. - it's all the way up here. okay, so is your problem thatyour wifi is just not reaching everywhere it needs to go? - yes, we're not gettingthe connection that we need. - okay. to set up milo, every setup is a little bit different
because it depends onthe size of your space, where your wifihas to go through, what kind of obstaclesyou may have in your home as well as where yourrouter is located. so, here's how milo's goingto solve that problem. so, we're in your kitchen. here's your router. i can already easily see thatthere's an outlet right here. i'm going to suggestthat we put our base unit
for the milo right here. - okay, sounds good. - okay, it's got no obstacles,no walls to get through. so, when you set up milo, you want to start with your base unit over by whereyour router is located about 15 or 20 feet away. then what we're going to dois we're going to put our points towards youroffice and upstairs, kind of like breadcrumbs to getwhere we want the wifi to go.
so, i would probably putone there up in the hallway and then i think she'sgoing to be able to have coverage throughoutthe entire house. now, before we get startedwe have a little bit of a check list we haveto run through. do you have existinginternet service? - of course. - all right, check. do you have a routeror a modem with wifi?
- we do. you have apple or andriodtablet or smartphone? - [janet] both. - okay, we're ready to roll. this is the base unit andthis is the unit that needs to be about 15 to 20 feetaway from your router that has your wifi. i'm going to goahead and plug it in. so, it's going totake a few minutes,
the lights are going to flashand then what we're looking for is two solid green lightsand that shows us that we go really good wifi strength. so, in the meantime, while it's booting up, go grab your ipad and thenwe're going to walk through the app and i'll show howabsolutely easy it is to set it all up. milo wifi is also greatfor small businesses. we have a coupleof bundle options.
so you have the singleoption, then the two-pack and then the three-pack. you can actually haveup to eight milos. - okay, so i havemy ipad. so show me. - all right, so first we'regoing to hit set up milo. - [stephanie] great. - perfect. now we'reusing the three-pack
because we've got the basehere and we want to extend the wifi into twodifferent areas. so, press the three-pack. next. perfect. we've got all the stuffthat came in the box. okay, we've got it plugged in. yes, next. all right, now let'scheck the lights.
two green lights, that's great. that means you have gota really strong signal. if you have question thatyou can't find on the app, all you have to dois call tech support. they are a great team, they are super helpful, they'll stay on the phonewith you as long as you need to set it up, they'lltroubleshoot any problem that you haveand they are located at the milo headquartersin the united states.
now, we're going to connectmilo to your existing network. and that's it. - this is my office right here. - it's a great space. - thanks. - i see an outletright by your desk. great, we will plug that in. and now, since we alreadyset up the base unit, that's all we have to do.
we don't even have to getback on the app again. it's going to talk to the base, the base is going to talk to this. it's going to boot up andonce we get two green lights, we know we're good to go. in their hallway, they've gotthis great little end table. i think that would bea really great spot for them to put the milobecause then, that wifi is going to extendinto both the children's rooms
and they're going to beable to have a crystal clear picture on their camera. i know that janet and chriswant to be able to sit outside in their beautiful patioand have their glass of wine and relax and enjoybut also know that the baby and chase are safe and soundand all tucked in. - [announcer] now thatjanet and chris can see that the kids are napping,it's time for them to enjoy some adult time.
- i'm glad everything'sworking now and we can just relax. wecan see olivia on the monitor and just listen tosome music maybe. - yeah, it's a nice day. it's great to be out here. let's get the music going. just enjoy somequiet time together. - sounds perfect.
- cheers. - for more information,go to designingspaces.tv or milowifi.com. - [announcer] afterretiring four years ago, 83 year old louise hennenenjoys the peace and solitude of doing crossword puzzles ather home in eustis, florida. but she always worries whenhurricane season rolls around that this peacefullife can be shattered. (glass shatters)- having been through a
tornado and hurricane,i have a great respect and fear for any stormthat is really powerful. well, i know when wehad the last hurricane, i went and stayedin the bathtub. because i was afraidof glass falling in, you know, breaking and stuff. so i sat in thebathroom in the bathtub until the hurricane was over. - [announcer] and louise'severy homeowner's concern.

concerned about energy andat builders firstsource, we have a window that canaddress both of those concerns. - [announcer] as one of thenation's largest suppliers and manufacturers ofbuilding materials, pre-fabricated componentsand construction services, builders firstsource isa fortune 500 company with over 400 locationsin 40 states and alaska. that means a wide rangeof products available from a large company but alsothe personalized attention
